CNY RISE Center and Mission Hope Church Unite for an Interfaith Iftar and Lent Potluck Dinner

On March 24, members of the CNY RISE Center and Mission Hope Church in Camillus came together for a unique interfaith gathering—an Iftar and Lent potluck dinner. This special event fostered understanding, unity, and friendship among the diverse faith communities in Central New York.

The evening began with insightful presentations about the significance of fasting in both Islam and Christianity. Tim Saka and Suzi Harriff shared their perspectives on how fasting serves as a spiritual discipline, emphasizing self-reflection, gratitude, and devotion to God. The discussions highlighted the commonalities between Ramadan and Lent, illustrating how both traditions encourage personal growth and a deeper connection with the Divine.

As the sun set, attendees witnessed the Islamic call to prayer (adhan), signaling the time for Maghrib prayer. Muslim participants gathered in prayer, while others observed in a spirit of respect and solidarity. Following the prayer, everyone sat together to enjoy a shared meal, symbolizing hospitality and togetherness.

The potluck-style dinner featured a variety of delicious dishes contributed by members of both communities, reflecting the rich cultural and culinary traditions of their respective faiths. Laughter, conversation, and meaningful exchanges filled the room, reinforcing the importance of interfaith dialogue and cooperation.

Events like this serve as a testament to the power of unity and mutual respect. By coming together to share traditions and break bread, the CNY RISE Center and Mission Hope Church demonstrated that, despite differences, people of all faiths can connect on the values of love, compassion, and community.
