12th Annual Community Ramadan Dinner: A Celebration of Shared Values at CNY Rise Center

On the evening of March 5, the CNY Rise Center in Syracuse hosted the 12th Annual Community Ramadan Dinner, an event that brought together people from diverse backgrounds to celebrate unity, dialogue, and shared values. The dinner was not just about breaking fast but about breaking barriers, fostering understanding, and strengthening the bonds of community.

As guests enjoyed a delicious selection of traditional Turkish cuisine, they engaged in meaningful conversations about the values that unite us all—compassion, respect, and a commitment to peace.

A Powerful Message of Interfaith Brotherhood

One of the most inspiring moments of the evening came from the keynote speakers, Imam Amir Duric and Rabbi Ethan Bair, who have worked together at Syracuse University on numerous interfaith initiatives.

They spoke about the importance of dialogue and unity, particularly in times of global uncertainty and division. They emphasized that faith should be a bridge, not a barrier, and that different religious traditions share a common call to kindness, justice, and mutual respect. Their message was clear: when we come together in understanding, we build stronger, more resilient communities.

Distinguished Guests and Community Leaders in Attendance

The event was graced by the presence of many distinguished guests and community leaders who are actively working toward fostering inclusivity, diversity, and social justice. Among them were:

  • Liz Hradil and Laura Gonzalez Murphy from the New York State New American Office
  • Onondaga County Sheriff Tobias Shelly
  • Captain Malinowsky from the Syracuse Police Department
  • Members of the New York State Police Department
  • Members of the Syracuse Mayor’s Office
  • Monica Williams and Montanette Rocker from the Onondaga County Commission on Human Rights
  • Members of the Bethany House
  • Members of Unity Church
  • Members of Congregation Beth Sholom Chevra Shas
  • Members of the New American Forum and Blessings Box
  • Members of Women Transcending Boundaries
  • Members of Bethany House and other community leaders

The presence of these respected individuals highlighted the broad support for interfaith and intercultural dialogue in Syracuse and the surrounding community. Their participation underscored the importance of events like this in fostering connections, understanding, and collaboration among diverse groups.

A Touching Performance by the Youngest Members of the Community

One of the most heartwarming moments of the evening was the Ramadan song performed by a group of young girls. Their angelic voices and joyful expressions filled the room with warmth and optimism. Their performance served as a beautiful reminder that our shared values of love, peace, and unity must be passed down to future generations.

More Than Just a Meal

The Community Ramadan Dinner at CNY Rise Center was not just a gathering; it was a powerful affirmation of shared values—a moment where people of different backgrounds came together to celebrate what unites them rather than what divides them. It demonstrated that through dialogue, respect, and shared experiences, we can create a stronger, more inclusive community.

The CNY Rise Center continues to be a place where people from all walks of life can come together, strengthen their bonds, and work toward a future built on understanding, compassion, and unity.

May we continue to gather around tables of peace and mutual respect, embracing the values that make us stronger together.
