Coffee Night with Enes Kanter at CNY RISE Center

CNY RISE Center held another Coffee Night event on August 24, 2019. The guest speaker for the event was NBA Star Enes Kanter who recently signed a contract with Boston Celtics. Enes was also attracted a lot of media attention because of his ongoing issues with the Turkish government.

The event started with refreshments for the guests, following an introduction by the board president, Timur Saka. After the introduction, Enes Kanter gave a short speech and started to accept questions. Guests asked various questions including his expectations of the new season with Celtics, his shoulder injury during the western finals, and his record number of free basketball camps during the summer. There were also questions about the cancellation of his passport by the Turkish government, his family, and his courage to speak against the human right violations in Turkey.

The event ended as Enes Kanter signed autographs and took pictures with the guests.

Historical Trip Through Seneca Turnpike

Onondaga Town Historian Mary Nowyj joined us for a coffee night to talk to about the rich history of Seneca Turnpike and the early years of the city of Syracuse. Neighbors around the city enjoyed the rich conversation about the history of our town including the Independence War, Split Rock accident during the World War. We even learned that Seneca Turnpike was part of the Underground Railroad System. The evening has ended by enjoying the home-made dishes prepared by the members of the CNY RISE Center Women Club.
